Jamie & Edward | Austin Capitol Barton Creek | Austin Engagement Photography

I love when a couple has an on-site professional hair and make up artist for the shoot! They not only look and photograph great (frequent powder=no shine even on humid, sweaty, Central Texas days), but lets me delegate worrying about flyaways, flattened curls, frizz, hair wrapped to sticky sweaty necks…you get the point. But in case not, I don’t have to worry about her lipstick coming off in all of those sexy kissing scenes that make engagement and wedding photography so emotional. Thanks to the groom’s daughter, Neysa, Jamie & Edward, you looked fantastic! She trotted around with us, even hauling some gear and props, to locations around Austin like Jo’s Coffee and S Congress (of “I love you so much!” fame), the Texas State Capitol, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt with its summer dry rock sculptures. You were great sports especially due to the last-minute emergency of your original photographer getting in a car wreck. Thanks for trusting yourselves to me, and I wish you all the best on your upcoming wedding this spring!

Monica & Travis | Terrace Club | Dripping Springs Wedding Photographer

Back at the Terrace Club in southwest Austin just outside Dripping Springs for a fun and elegant wedding with Monica & Travis and their adorable little son who danced all the way up the aisle after the ceremony. The early September weather seemed so much cooler: it’s amazing what 5 degrees will do. They planned their ceremony for that amazing sunset and golden hour when the best photos happen with amazing special effects from the sun as well as gorgeous light for glamorous portraits. The Terrace Club makes it easy to have an elegant reception with simple yet elegant decor that puts all the attention on that amazing view! The wedding party and guests were so fun from snagging appetizers during the formal portraits to a party that rocked into the night with that laid back classy attitude I love to work with. Sometimes it’s tough to refuse staying extra late and partying right along with you. Congratulations to you both, and here’s to many more years as a family!

Sneak Peek | Jamie & Edward | Austin Capitol Barton Creek | Austin Engagement Photographer

Having a professional network is a vital ingredient to success in our industry, and not just because we refer out inquiries where we’re already booked (although that’s a big, obvious benefit). But if you ask your prospective wedding photographer, “What happens if you’re not able to make it due to an accident or crisis?” you want to hear a good back up plan. I got a call from a frantic couple whose photographer was in a roll-over on his way into town for their engagement shoot, and the local network kicked in for an emergency last-minute replacement. I was able to arrive at the location and get straight to work capturing beautiful images of this couple so much in love. By the end of the night, we had all relaxed and created a beautiful experience at several local spots: Jo’s Coffee and the now famous I Love You So Much red lettering mural on the big green wall, the Texas State Capitol, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt. We were able to capture their personality due to good preparation on their part and the part of the photographer for insisting the EMT text the couple even from his gurney. This is not the first time I’ve filled in due to a car accident or family crisis, it won’t be the last, and it’s nice to know that my fellow photographers are capable of stepping up when someday tragedy strikes me as well. Kudos to all the couples who were nervous at the last-minute change of plans when I showed up instead of whom they were expecting, yet were able to take comfort in the back-up plan working, and getting great images from their special day.
